Victoria Ann Flores, CCE
There were 13 women out of about 3,000 in my UW engineering college, and so the adventures began. I graduated in Civil Engineering after putting myself through college and became a construction field engineer and project controls specialist for some of the biggest firms in the world – Bechtel (Grade 27), Parsons, PB to name a few – traveling overseas to Saudi Arabia, Madrid Spain, Costa Rica, Dubai, Chile, and Australia, along with many US locations. My husband and I are both project controls engineers (he’s a Bechtel Grade 28) and so we were able to travel as a family. We raised five good kids, all excellent travelers, all grown now and three working in non-profits to help others (sorry, another one’s a lawyer). We have fun on our projects and take advantage of the opportunities to travel and meet people. What we have discovered is that people are pretty much the same everywhere love their families and try to do good work. My most poignant project was the Pentagon rebuild after 9/11. Other projects included nuclear power plants, many airports, liquid natural gas plants, oil and gas pipelines, country mega-infrastructures, etc. My current plans are to add screenwriting to my skill set.
